What is Needle Felting?
Very basically, Needle Felting is an extremely relaxing and legal way to stab away your frustrations. It involves a long, thin needle that has a series of notches, or barbs, on one end. You poke this needle into and out of sheep’s wool, which tangles the wool fibers together. This firms up the wool, making it able to be sculpted into 3D shapes and forms (and gnomes) or can be worked as 2D designs onto the surface of a fabric, also known as painting with wool.
I am not an expert on needle felting, nor do I know a lot about the different types of sheep’s wool that is available, but I’m having fun creating with all the beautiful colors.
If you’re interested in learning more, email or PM me and let me know. I’m willing to write a research paper on the subject!
Also, I may be able to be talked into teaching a workshop on how to needle felt, so let me know if you’re interested in joining me for that.
